At the LeadHead Studio, I use only high quality professional materials.  For any portrait you will have the options to choose paper and mat colors.  The paper that I prefer to use for portraits is a Stonehenge 90 lb. paper.  Your options for color are: White, Cream, Natural, Pale Blue or a Pearl Gray.  I have choosen to go with this particular paper because it is 100% cotton, acid free and works well with a variety of different mediums.

I use a variety of pencils to achieve the multiple shades within your portrait.  My preference of pencils are the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils.  If you have a budding artist in your family, I would highly recommend them.  Along side these pencils, I also use blending stumps and tortillons to help soften the lines of each piece.

For your matting options, you will have a choice of Black, White or Cream. The mats that I use are a 4-ply acid free mat with a white core.

To protect each finished piece, I will spray your artwork with a Krylon fixative.  This will protect it from smudging and yellowing over time.

Finally before shipping, your piece will be secured in an acid free art sleeve with a backing board and mailed flat.

  1. Choose your options: Paper Selection and Mat Color
  2. Add the product to your cart.
  3. Complete the check out process.
  4. Email your high quality reference photo to info@leadhead.net

Once I have your reference photo, I layout out the main areas of your portrait.  I work from the lightest to darkest areas until I feel that I have captured the essence of the image.  When I have completed your portrait, I will email you a watermarked "proof" for your approval.  At this time, I can make any necessary minor adjustments.  Once the artwork is approved, I will spray it with a fixative to preserve the image and keep it from smudging.  Finally matting it and placing it in an acid free art sleeve with a backing board before I ship it to its final destination.
